What you get on day one

Pick Saudi Arabia when you create the business. Everything below is seeded for you and editable in Settings.

  • VAT rates seeded. VAT 15%, VAT 0% (zero-rated) and Exempt, with VAT 15% as the default.
  • Tax Invoice with your VAT number. The VAT number is checked for format when you enter it and printed on every invoice.
  • SAR amounts, DD/MM/YYYY dates. A total prints as SAR 1,250,000.00, in words as riyals and halalas.
  • A January to December financial year. Numbering runs per year: the first invoice is INV-2026-0001.
  • Payroll components ready. Basic salary, Housing allowance, Transport allowance, Other allowance, GOSI (employee, Saudi staff), Deductions, GOSI (employer) and End-of-service accrual.
  • Phones with +966. Customer, supplier and employee numbers take the +966 format; you and your team sign in with your email.

VAT in Saudi Arabia

VAT in Saudi Arabia: what you need to know

The rules the product is set up around, in plain words. Your accountant confirms what applies to you. Sources: ZATCA: VAT registration, ZATCA: e-invoicing roll-out phases, GOSI.

  • Rate. VAT is 15% on most goods and services. Exports and some other supplies are zero-rated; some financial services and residential rent are exempt.
  • Registration. Registration is mandatory once taxable supplies pass SAR 375,000 in 12 months, or are expected to in the next 12. You may register voluntarily from SAR 187,500.
  • VAT number. A ZATCA VAT number has 15 digits and starts and ends with 3.
  • Tax invoices. A registered business issues a tax invoice for sales to businesses and a simplified tax invoice for sales to consumers; simplified invoices carry a QR code.
  • Returns. Businesses with taxable supplies above SAR 40 million a year file monthly; everyone else files quarterly.
  • e-Invoicing (FATOORA). Since 4 December 2021 every VAT-registered business must issue invoices from a compliant e-invoicing solution. Phase two, integration with ZATCA's FATOORA platform, is rolled out in waves by revenue, with ZATCA notifying each wave at least six months ahead.
  • Imported services. Services bought from abroad are reverse-charged: you account for the VAT and recover it as input tax.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Do I need to be registered for VAT to use SimpleERP?

No. Setup asks whether you are registered. VAT registration is mandatory once taxable supplies pass SAR 375,000 in 12 months, and voluntary from SAR 187,500. If that changes, switch it in Settings; your VAT number prints on every invoice once you add it.

What does a SimpleERP tax invoice show?

Your business name and address, your VAT number, the customer, a number from a sequence that never repeats, the date, each line with its VAT rate, the tax by rate and the amount in words. Your accountant can confirm what your business must show.

How much does SimpleERP cost in Saudi Arabia?

Every module is free for 7 days with no card. After that Premium is SAR 190 per user per month (SAR 2,280 per user per year), the fixed equivalent of USD 50, counted on the people who sign in. See pricing.

Does SimpleERP file my VAT returns?

No. It keeps the records and gives you a tax summary by rate and the sales and purchase registers, all exportable to CSV, for whoever files your returns.

Is SimpleERP a ZATCA-approved e-invoicing solution?

No. SimpleERP does not generate the QR code or the XML that ZATCA's e-invoicing rules require, and does not connect to FATOORA. A VAT-registered business in Saudi Arabia needs a compliant e-invoicing solution for its tax invoices; use SimpleERP for the rest of the business.

Can I run a Sunday to Thursday week?

Yes. A Saudi business is set up with Sunday to Thursday as working days, and attendance and leave count days that way.

Where is my data stored?

In a PostgreSQL database on the hosted service, where row-level security keeps each business to its own rows. Ask us where the service is hosted and how it is backed up, and export your reports to CSV whenever you like.
