VAT in Bangladesh
VAT in Bangladesh: what you need to know
The rules the product is set up around, in plain words. Your accountant confirms what applies to you. Sources: National Board of Revenue, NBR VAT Online, Grant Thornton: indirect tax guide, Bangladesh.
- Rate. The standard VAT rate is 15%. Reduced rates of 10%, 7.5% and 5% apply to goods and services listed in the Act, and exports are zero-rated.
- Registration or turnover tax. Above NBR's turnover threshold you register for VAT and get a BIN; smaller businesses enlist for turnover tax at 4% of turnover instead. The thresholds were changed by ordinance in 2025, so confirm the current figures with NBR.
- Mushak 6.3. A VAT-registered supplier issues the tax invoice on Mushak 6.3, in serially numbered copies, showing the supplier's name, address and BIN and the buyer's details.
- Returns. The VAT return (Mushak 9.1) is filed monthly, within 15 days of the following month, online through NBR's VAT portal.
- Year. The fiscal year runs from July to June, and SimpleERP numbers documents on that year.

FAQ
Questions, answered
Do I need to be registered for VAT to use SimpleERP?
No. Setup asks whether you are registered. Above NBR's turnover threshold you register for VAT and get a BIN; below it you may enlist for turnover tax instead. The thresholds changed in 2025, so confirm the current figure with NBR. If that changes, switch it in Settings; your BIN prints on every invoice once you add it.
What does a SimpleERP tax invoice (mushak 6.3) show?
Your business name and address, your BIN, the customer, a number from a sequence that never repeats, the date, each line with its VAT rate, the tax by rate and the amount in words. Your accountant can confirm what your business must show.
How much does SimpleERP cost in Bangladesh?
Every module is free for 7 days with no card. After that Premium is BDT 6,000 per user per month (BDT 72,000 per user per year), the fixed equivalent of USD 50, counted on the people who sign in. See pricing.
Does SimpleERP file my VAT returns?
No. It keeps the records and gives you a tax summary by rate and the sales and purchase registers, all exportable to CSV, for whoever files your returns.
Does SimpleERP print Mushak 6.3?
SimpleERP prints a tax invoice with your BIN, the buyer's BIN and VAT by rate, titled "Tax Invoice (Mushak 6.3)" once you are registered. It is not NBR-approved VAT software, which larger businesses must use, and it does not file Mushak 9.1.
Can I bill at the reduced VAT rates?
Yes. VAT 15%, 10%, 7.5% and 5% are seeded, along with zero-rated and exempt, so each product carries the rate the Act gives it.
Where is my data stored?
In a PostgreSQL database on the hosted service, where row-level security keeps each business to its own rows. Ask us where the service is hosted and how it is backed up, and export your reports to CSV whenever you like.
