What you get on day one
Pick Canada when you create the business. Everything below is seeded for you and editable in Settings.
- GST/HST rates seeded. GST 5%, HST 13%, HST 14%, HST 15%, GST 5% + PST 7%, GST 5% + RST 7%, GST 5% + PST 6%, GST 5% + QST 9.975%, Zero-rated and Exempt, with GST 5% as the default.
- Invoice with your GST/HST number. The GST/HST number is checked for format when you enter it and printed on every invoice.
- CAD amounts, YYYY-MM-DD dates. A total prints as C$1,250,000.00, in words as dollars and cents.
- A January to December financial year. Numbering runs per year: the first invoice is INV-2026-0001.
- Payroll components ready. Salary, Bonus, Income tax, CPP contributions, EI premiums, Employer CPP and Employer EI.
- Phones with +1. Customer, supplier and employee numbers take the +1 format; you and your team sign in with your email.

GST/HST in Canada
GST/HST in Canada: what you need to know
The rules the product is set up around, in plain words. Your accountant confirms what applies to you. Sources: CRA: GST/HST rates by province, CRA: when to register for GST/HST, Input Tax Credit Information Regulations, CRA: EI premium rates.
- Registration. You must register for GST/HST once your taxable sales pass $30,000 in one calendar quarter or over four quarters in a row (the small supplier limit). Below that, registering is voluntary and lets you claim input tax credits.
- Rates by province. GST is 5% everywhere. Ontario charges 13% HST, Nova Scotia 14% (since 1 April 2025), and New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island 15%. Alberta and the three territories charge GST only.
- Provincial sales taxes. British Columbia (PST 7%), Manitoba (RST 7%) and Saskatchewan (PST 6%) add their own tax, registered with the province. Quebec adds QST at 9.975%, run by Revenu Québec. Each is seeded as GST plus the provincial part, and your province's rate is the default. PST and RST you pay on purchases are booked as part of the cost, since they are not input tax credits; QST is claimed back like GST.
- Sales to other provinces. GST/HST generally follows where the goods or services are delivered, so a sale shipped to Ontario carries 13% HST even from Alberta. Every province's rate is seeded: pick it on the line.
- Invoices. From $100, show your GST/HST number and the tax charged (or that it is included, with the rate). From $500, also show the customer's name, the payment terms and a description of each item, so a registered customer can claim the credit.
- Filing. CRA assigns annual returns at $1.5 million of taxable supplies or less, quarterly up to $6 million and monthly above that. You can choose to file more often.

Payroll
Payroll set up for Canada
Salary components for Canada are seeded when you create the business. Runs build each payslip from the structure and post salary expense and payables when you approve.
- Salary, Bonus, Income tax and CPP contributions ready to use
- EI premiums seeded at the 2026 rates: 1.63% of insurable earnings for the employee (up to $68,900) and 1.4 times that, 2.282%, for the employer
- CPP is 5.95% each from employee and employer on 2026 earnings between the $3,500 basic exemption and $74,600, so you enter it per run
- Employees in Quebec pay QPP and QPIP instead of CPP, and a lower EI rate: rename those components and set their rates
- Attendance and leave feed paid days
- Payslips in employee self-service

Honest limits
Honest limits
- Filing GST/HST returns or submitting e-invoices to a government system
- Statutory payroll tax tables: you enter the deduction amounts
- Prices that include tax: product prices are entered before tax
- Invoices in a second currency: one currency per business
- A separate payable account for PST, RST or QST: what you collect posts to GST/HST Payable, so split it out when you remit to the province

FAQ
Questions, answered
Do I need to be registered for GST/HST to use SimpleERP?
No. Setup asks whether you are registered. You must register for GST/HST once your taxable sales pass $30,000 in one calendar quarter or over four in a row (the small supplier limit). Below that, registering is voluntary. If that changes, switch it in Settings; your GST/HST number prints on every invoice once you add it.
What does a SimpleERP invoice show?
Your business name and address, your GST/HST number, the customer, a number from a sequence that never repeats, the date, each line with its GST/HST rate, the tax by rate and the amount in words. Your accountant can confirm what your business must show.
How much does SimpleERP cost in Canada?
Every module is free for 7 days with no card. After that Premium is C$70 per user per month (C$840 per user per year), the fixed equivalent of USD 50, counted on the people who sign in. See pricing.
Does SimpleERP file my GST/HST returns?
No. It keeps the records and gives you a tax summary by rate and the sales and purchase registers, all exportable to CSV, for whoever files your returns.
Which rate do I charge a customer in another province?
GST/HST generally follows where you deliver: goods shipped to a customer in Ontario carry 13% HST, to Alberta 5% GST. SimpleERP seeds every province's rate, so pick the right one on the line. PST in British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan follows each province's own rules, so ask your accountant whether you must register there.
Do I need a separate PST or QST number?
Yes, if you must collect them: PST is registered with British Columbia, Manitoba or Saskatchewan, and QST with Revenu Québec. SimpleERP prints your GST/HST number on invoices; add a PST or QST number to the invoice notes, which print on the document.
Where is my data stored?
In a PostgreSQL database on the hosted service, where row-level security keeps each business to its own rows. Ask us where the service is hosted and how it is backed up, and export your reports to CSV whenever you like.
