Inventory software for furniture manufacturers

Know how many cubic feet of seasoned sheesham are left in the yard, which designs are standing finished in the godown, and what each is worth today.

In short

SimpleERP is inventory software for furniture manufacturers in India. It counts timber in cft, plywood in sheets and hinges in pieces, keeps finished furniture per godown and showroom, and values every item at weighted average cost.

An inventory day at Marwar Sheesham Works

The timber yard at Marwar Sheesham Works holds logs and sawn planks of sheesham and mango wood in the middle of seasoning, measured in cft by the yard supervisor with a tape and a chalk mark. Next to it the store keeps 18 mm plywood, PU polish in 20 litre drums, hinges, drawer channels and screws.

Finished pieces stand in a godown behind the workshop until a truck takes them, and a dozen display pieces sit in the showroom on the highway. When a buyer calls asking for six honey-finish bedside tables, the manager wants one answer for all three places, not a walk around the campus.

Can I count timber in cft and chairs in pieces in one system?

Every product has its own unit. Add cft as a unit for timber, keep sheets for plywood, litres for polish and Nos for finished pieces. Each warehouse holds its own quantity of each product.

  • Four warehouses: timber yard, hardware store, finished godown and showroom.
  • Transfers move a dining set from the godown to the showroom with a document for each move.
  • Physical counts after the yard re-measures a stack, with a reason for the difference.

What is the timber in the yard worth after prices moved?

Each supplier bill brings timber in at its own rate, and SimpleERP blends it into a weighted average. If the yard held 400 cft at ₹2,250 and a new lot of 200 cft arrives at ₹2,450, the average becomes ₹2,316.67 per cft and the yard is worth ₹13,90,000.

  • Stock value per warehouse as of today, so the yard and the showroom are seen apart.
  • Issues at average cost when timber goes into a work order or a piece is invoiced.
  • Stock adjustments post to the books, so a short count shows up as a loss and not as a puzzle.

How do I know hinges and polish are running short?

Set a reorder level on each hardware item and on polish. The stock list shows every item at or below its level, and you pick which ones to put on a purchase order to your hardware supplier in Jodhpur.

  • Purchase orders grouped by supplier from the items you select.
  • Supplier bills receive stock into the hardware store at the bill rate.
  • Finished designs get a level too, so a fast-selling bed is made before the godown is empty.

Honest limits

What SimpleERP does not do yet

  • No batch, lot, serial or expiry tracking, and no barcode scanning
  • Weighted average cost only; there is no FIFO
  • No automatic reorder suggestions: the reorder level shows what is low, you decide what to buy
  • No log-by-log or plank-by-plank tracking: sheesham is one quantity in cft per warehouse
  • No conversion from logs to sawn planks inside stock; record sawing as a work order or an adjustment

Getting started

Start with inventory

  1. Sign up with your phone

Name, phone number and a password. No card for the seven-day trial, and email is optional.

  2. Tell us about the business

Type your GSTIN and the state fills itself. Accounts, GST rates, units, roles and numbering are seeded for you.

  3. Add products and opening stock

Add sheesham and mango wood in cft, plywood in sheets and hardware in Nos, with opening stock in the yard, store, godown and showroom, or import them from a CSV file.

  4. Post a bill and an invoice

Stock rises on the purchase bill and falls on the invoice, at weighted average cost, with nothing to count by hand.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Can I keep wet timber and seasoned timber apart?

Yes. Make two products, such as Sheesham planks wet and Sheesham planks seasoned, or keep a separate warehouse for the kiln. When a lot is ready, move it with a transfer or adjust one out and the other in, with a reason the yard supervisor can read later.

Our showroom pieces get scratched. How do I record a damaged table?

Post a stock adjustment in the showroom warehouse with the reason damaged in transit or damaged on display. The table leaves stock at its average cost and the loss posts to the books. If it is repaired and sold cheaper, keep it in stock and give a line discount on the invoice.

Will a plywood offcut count as stock?

Only if you want it to. Most units leave offcuts out and allow for them through the scrap percentage on the bill of materials. If you resell offcuts, make them a product and bring them in with an adjustment.

I buy timber from a depot without GST. Can I still add it?

Yes. Enter the purchase bill from that supplier with no tax on the line, and the timber comes into the yard at the bill rate like any other lot. Your CA will advise how that purchase is treated for GST.
