GST reference
GST reference: state codes, SAC and HSN codes
The codes an Indian invoice needs, in three families: the state code that starts every GSTIN, the SAC for a service, and the HSN codes your trade uses most.
In short
This is a free GST reference for Indian businesses: state codes, SAC codes by service and HSN codes by industry, each with sources and a verified date. SimpleERP uses the same codes on every invoice it makes.

How to use these references
Each page is a starting point for your own records, checked against the government source it links to.
- Look up, then confirm. Every table names its sources and the date we last checked them. Rates change, so confirm a rate with your CA or the GST portal before you bill.
- Codes come from the GSTIN. The first two digits of a GSTIN are the state code, so a valid GSTIN already tells you the place of supply for a registered buyer.
- Pick the narrowest code you can. Use the six-digit SAC or the HSN digits your turnover requires; the industry pages show the codes a trade uses most.
- Put the code on the item once. In SimpleERP the HSN or SAC sits on the item, so every invoice line and the GSTR-1 HSN summary carry it without retyping.
FAQ
Questions, answered
Where do these codes and rates come from?
From the GST portal state code list, the CBIC classification of services and the CBIC rate notifications, including the changes from 22 September 2025. Each page lists its sources and the date we last verified it.
How often are the pages checked?
At least every six months. Each page shows a verified-on date, and our build fails a page whose date is older than 180 days, so a stale table cannot stay published.
Can I rely on the rate shown for my invoice?
Use it as a starting point. Rates depend on the exact goods or service, and some services fall under reverse charge or an exemption. Confirm with your CA or the GST portal before you rely on a rate.
Does SimpleERP fill these codes in for me?
Partly. SimpleERP reads the state from a customer's GSTIN and picks CGST and SGST or IGST from the place of supply. You enter the HSN or SAC and rate on each item once, and every invoice line carries it.
