Using the tables
How to use these tables
Each industry page lists the goods that trade buys and sells most, so you can set up items without searching the full tariff.
- Start with your outputs. The goods you sell need the right HSN and rate on every invoice; inputs matter for checking supplier bills.
- Use the digits your turnover needs. Four digits up to ₹5 crore turnover on B2B invoices, six above that; eight-digit codes are fine where you know them.
- Check the 22 September 2025 changes. Many rates moved that day; each page says which of its codes changed.
- Service trades use SAC. For the Serve industries the table lists their SAC codes, which start with 99.
FAQ
Questions, answered
What is an HSN code?
HSN (Harmonised System of Nomenclature) is the code that classifies goods for GST. The first two digits are the chapter, and each further pair narrows the goods down.
Why are the codes grouped by industry?
Most businesses deal in a few dozen goods. A table per trade, such as bricks, furniture or auto parts, is quicker to use than the full tariff of thousands of headings.
Can I rely on the rate shown for my goods?
Use it as a starting point. Rates change, and the exact description of your goods decides the rate. Confirm with your CA or the GST portal before you bill.
Where does the HSN go in SimpleERP?
On the item. Set the HSN and rate once and SimpleERP carries them to every invoice line and the GSTR-1 HSN summary.
