Manufacturing software for garment units

Know what one T-shirt costs once fabric waste, rib, thread, labels and stitching are counted, and see it again after every batch.

In short

SimpleERP is manufacturing software for garment and knitwear units in India. A bill of materials per style holds fabric in kg, trims and cutting waste, and each work order consumes stock and adds finished pieces at actual cost.

A manufacturing day at Noyyal Knit Fashions

A Chennai brand has asked Noyyal Knit Fashions for 1,200 navy round-neck T-shirts in four sizes, and the owner quoted ₹168 a piece from memory. The cutting master lays the first batch, and nobody has checked how much fabric the new marker really uses.

Costing in a garment unit lives in the cutting master's head: so many kilos for so many pieces, plus rib, thread, labels and polybags, plus whatever the tailors are paid for the batch. When fabric prices move, the quote does not.

SimpleERP writes that knowledge down as a bill of materials for each style and size, and runs each batch as a work order. When the batch is packed, the work order takes the fabric and trims out of stock and puts the finished pieces in at what they really cost.

What goes into a BOM for a batch of T-shirts?

List the body fabric in kg, the rib, the thread and each trim per batch, add a scrap percentage for cutting waste, and put cutting, stitching, ironing and packing labour as additional cost per batch. SimpleERP rolls it into a cost per piece.

  • Scrap on fabric covers marker waste and end bits.
  • A BOM per size, since an XL uses more fabric than an S.
  • Versions for a changed GSM or a new label supplier; old work orders keep their plan.

How does a work order turn fabric into pieces?

Raise the work order from the buyer's sales order line, and SimpleERP plans the fabric and trims from the BOM and checks them against the cutting floor's stock. Start it when cutting begins and complete it when the batch is packed.

  • Actual fabric used is entered at completion, so a wasteful marker shows in the cost.
  • Completion is the only step that moves stock and posts the journal.
  • Start and complete from a phone on the floor.

Can I check a quote against what the last batch cost?

Each completed work order shows a cost per piece. Put the last batch's ₹123.24 beside the buyer's ₹168 price and you see the margin before trims, freight and overheads, and you know at once whether a fabric price rise needs a new quote.

  • Finished pieces carry that cost into stock until they are invoiced.
  • Cost of goods sold posts at the same figure when the invoice goes out.
  • Each size's batch shows its own cost, so an XL quote is not priced like an S.

Honest limits

What SimpleERP does not do yet

  • No production stages or shop-floor tracking; a work order is planned, started and completed
  • No piece-rate pay or scrap by-product in the work order
  • Work orders are internal; job work sent outside is a purchase, not a work order
  • No cutting, stitching and checking stages: the batch is one work order from plan to complete.
  • No job-work challans for fabric sent out for printing or embroidery.

Getting started

Start with manufacturing

  1. Sign up with your phone

Name, phone number and a password. No card for the seven-day trial, and email is optional.

  2. Tell us about the business

Type your GSTIN and the state fills itself. Accounts, GST rates, units, roles and numbering are seeded for you.

  3. Add bills of materials

Build a bill of materials for one size of your best-selling style, with fabric in kg, rib, thread, labels, polybags and a labour cost per batch.

  4. Complete a work order

Components leave stock, finished goods arrive at real cost, and the journal posts in the same step.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Can I see how far a batch has got: cut, stitched, checked?

No. SimpleERP has no production stages. A work order is planned, started and completed, and stock moves only on completion. Floor tracking by stage stays on your board or register for now.

Can one work order cover all four sizes?

No, because each size is its own product with its own BOM. Raise one work order per size; they can all come from the same sales order, and each shows its own fabric use and cost per piece.

How do I add the cost of printing done by an outside unit?

Enter the printer's bill as a purchase. If you want it in the garment cost, add the printing charge as additional cost per batch in the BOM, or adjust the work order's additional cost to the actual bill.

Can I pay tailors from the work order output?

No. Work orders do not carry piece-rate pay, and payroll is a monthly salary. Stitching labour goes into the BOM as a cost per batch so the garment cost is right, while wages are paid through payroll.
