GST billing software for textile and garment units
Garment rates turn on the value of each piece, fabric goes by the kilo and stitching for another unit is a service. One invoice holds all three without a calculator.
In short
SimpleERP is GST billing software for textile and garment businesses in India. Garments, knitted fabric and job-work services each carry their own HSN or SAC and rate, and the buyer's GSTIN decides CGST and SGST or IGST on every invoice.

A GST billing day at Noyyal Knit Fashions
Noyyal Knit Fashions dispatches three loads on a Tuesday: 1,200 round-neck T-shirts to a Chennai brand, 40 dozen polo shirts to a Delhi wholesaler, and 380 kg of leftover knitted fabric sold to a smaller unit down the road in Tiruppur.
The billing desk used to do each invoice in a spreadsheet, working out the tax by hand because the garment rate depends on the value of each piece. The Delhi wholesaler needs IGST, the fabric buyer pays the split tax, and the Chennai brand insists on its purchase order number on the bill.
SimpleERP takes the code and rate from each product, reads the state from the buyer's GSTIN, and prints an A4 tax invoice with the HSN summary the buyer's accountant asks for. Stock leaves the finished goods godown in the same step.
Which HSN code and rate goes on a garment invoice?
Knitted T-shirts, knitted shirts, fabric and yarn each have their own heading, and for garments the rate depends on the sale value per piece. Put the code and rate on each product, and an invoice that mixes a low-priced vest with a premium polo taxes each line at its own rate.
- A product per style and size carries its own price, so the value-per-piece rule is applied line by line.
- Rates live in settings, so a change by the GST Council is edited once, not on every bill.
- The HSN summary prints on the invoice and comes out as a report for GSTR-1.
| What you bill | Code | What sets the rate |
|---|---|---|
| Knitted T-shirts and vests | HSN 6109 | Sale value per piece, revised September 2025 |
| Knitted polo shirts | HSN 6105 | Sale value per piece, revised September 2025 |
| Surplus knitted fabric, by kg | HSN 6006 | The fabric heading, not the garment one |
| Cotton yarn sold on | HSN 5205 | The yarn heading |
| Stitching for another unit on its fabric | A SAC under 9988 | Textile job work on goods the other unit owns |
How does a 40 dozen order across four sizes look on the bill?
Each size is its own product, so 40 dozen polos in S, M, L and XL becomes four lines. Set the unit to dozen or pieces per product, and the invoice shows the quantity the Delhi wholesaler ordered in the unit he counts in.
- Quick entry from the keyboard: Enter moves to the next cell, so four size lines take seconds.
- Line discounts in percent or rupees for a buyer's season rate.
- Sales order to invoice, in one go or carton by carton as the dispatch leaves.

What do I do when the buyer rejects pieces after checking?
Brands check a sample of every shipment, and a few dozen may come back for a shade or stitching fault. A credit note against the original invoice takes those pieces back into stock, reduces the GST and the buyer's balance, and is capped at what was billed.
- Linked credit notes show on the buyer's statement next to the invoice.
- Returned pieces go to a seconds godown, apart from first-quality stock.
- Receivables ageing tracks the brand that pays in 60 or 90 days.

What SimpleERP does not do yet
- E-invoice IRN and QR code, and e-way bills, are not generated through the government APIs
- Cess is not calculated; GST return filing stays with you or your accountant
- No price lists: every line is priced as you bill it
- No size and colour matrix on the invoice: each size or colour is a separate product line.
- No job-work challans for fabric sent out for dyeing or printing.

FAQ
Questions, answered
Does the GST rate on a T-shirt change with its price?
Yes, for many garments the rate depends on the sale value per piece, and both the threshold and the rates were revised in September 2025. In SimpleERP each style carries its own rate, so set it from its selling price and check it whenever you reprice. Rates change, so confirm the rate for your goods with your CA or the GST portal before you rely on it.
Can I bill some buyers in dozens and others in pieces?
Each product keeps one unit. If one buyer orders by the dozen and another by the piece, keep the style in pieces and bill 480 pieces for 40 dozen, or keep two products for the same style. Most units pick pieces and put the dozen count in the line description.
Can the brand's purchase order number go on my invoice?
Yes. Record the buyer's order as a sales order with their reference, and the invoice created from it carries that reference on the print. The buyer's accounts team can then match your bill against their order without calling you.
How do I bill stitching done on another unit's fabric?
Add a service such as stitching charges with its SAC and bill it per piece. No stock moves, because the fabric and garments belong to the other unit. Confirm the treatment of textile job work with your CA, since the rate rules for it have changed.
