Payroll software for interior and fit-out contractors

Carpenters and supervisors check in from the site, attendance becomes paid days, advances come back through the payslip and the run posts to the books.

In short

SimpleERP is payroll software for interior and fit-out contractors in India. Carpenters, helpers and site supervisors check in from a phone browser, monthly salary structures with PF and PT read their attendance, and advances are recovered through each payslip.

A payroll day at Nila Interiors

Nila Interiors has eight carpenters, two helpers and two site supervisors on its own payroll, spread over three sites on any given day: a modular kitchen in Kakkanad, wardrobes in Kadavanthra and plywood partitions at the Edappally clinic. Shibu, the senior carpenter, took a ₹6,000 advance in August for his daughter's school fees, and two helpers missed days during the monsoon.

Before SimpleERP the supervisors sent attendance as photos of a register, and the partner worked out salaries on a calculator on the last Saturday of the month. Now each person checks in from the site on their phone, and the month's payslips come from that record.

How does site attendance reach payroll?

With a self-service login, a carpenter checks in and out from a phone browser once a day, and the time is flagged late after the shift's grace period. For anyone without a phone, HR marks the whole crew's day on one screen.

  • Unmarked days count as present and are flagged in the payroll review so nobody loses pay by mistake.
  • Approved leave fills attendance for those days.
  • Holidays per branch, if each site or office runs as a branch.

What goes into a carpenter's and a supervisor's salary?

Each person gets a salary structure built from components. The table shows two of Nila's people for a full month; PT is added per your state's slab, and TDS only where you set it.

ComponentShibu K, carpenterAnoop M, site supervisor
Basic₹15,000₹20,000
Conveyance allowance₹2,000₹3,000
Special allowance₹3,000₹5,000
Gross₹20,000₹28,000
PF, employee 12% of Basic₹1,800₹2,400
Advance recovery₹2,000None
Net before PT₹16,200₹25,600

How are advances to carpenters recovered?

Pay the advance from the advances page and set the monthly recovery. Shibu's ₹6,000 comes back at ₹2,000 a month over three payslips, and he sees the remaining balance in his own self-service login.

  • The advances report shows paid, recovered and still due per person.
  • The last recovery is only what is left, never more than the set amount.
  • Each run goes from generate to approve to pay, with salaries, PF and advances posted to the books.

What about crews that are not on our payroll?

Painting, false ceiling and electrical crews who bill you as subcontractors are suppliers, not employees. Enter their bills and pay them against those bills; only the people you employ directly go through payroll.

  • Supervisor site spends come in as expense claims with a photo of each slip.
  • The payroll register exports to CSV for whoever handles your PF.

Honest limits

Not included yet

  • Income tax (TDS) is not computed; you set the deduction per employee
  • No preset ESI or gratuity; add them as components where they apply
  • No biometric device integration: attendance is marked on the phone or entered by HR
  • No daily-wage or piece-rate pay: carpenters on payroll are paid a monthly salary
  • Phone check-in has no location check, so it does not prove the carpenter was at the site

Getting started

Start with payroll

  1. Sign up with your phone

Name, phone number and a password. No card for the seven-day trial, and email is optional.

  2. Tell us about the business

Type your GSTIN and the state fills itself. Accounts, GST rates, units, roles and numbering are seeded for you.

  3. Add your people

Add each carpenter, helper and site supervisor with a monthly salary structure, and invite them to self-service with their phone number.

  4. Run the first payroll

Attendance and leave feed the run; payslips post to the books and staff see them on their phones.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Can carpenters be paid per day instead of per month?

No. Payroll works on a monthly salary, and absent days reduce pay as loss of pay. Crews you pay per day or per job are better handled as subcontractor bills.

Does a carpenter need a smartphone to check in?

It helps, since check-in runs in the phone's browser. For those without one, HR or the supervisor marks the day's attendance for the whole crew on one screen.

Can we pay overtime for a late-night handover?

Overtime is not worked out from check-in times. Add the amount as a one-off earning on that month's payslip before you approve the run, the way you would add a bonus or arrears.

Do the carpenters get payslips?

Yes. Each person with a self-service login sees their own payslips, attendance and advance balance on their phone, and you can print any payslip on white A4.
