Bricks and blocks
GST billing software for brick and block manufacturers
One tax invoice per lorry or tractor load, bricks at a rate per thousand and blocks at a rate per piece, and the tax worked out from the state the site is in.
In short
SimpleERP is GST billing software for brick and block manufacturers in India. A fly-ash brick unit bills each lorry on one tax invoice, bricks per thousand and blocks per piece, with CGST and SGST or IGST read from the site address.

A GST billing day at Thenpennai Eco Bricks
Thenpennai Eco Bricks presses fly-ash bricks and solid and hollow concrete blocks on two hydraulic machines outside Krishnagiri. Most loads go up the highway to builders in Hosur and across the border to apartment sites in Electronic City and Sarjapur, with a few tractor loads a day for house owners in the villages around.
A site engineer calls at eight for 6,000 bricks and 300 six-inch hollow blocks. The lorry is loaded by noon, and the invoice has to be ready before it leaves the gate, because the driver's papers and the e-way bill both need its number and value. A Hosur site is in Tamil Nadu; a Sarjapur site is in Karnataka, and that changes the tax on the very same bricks.
In SimpleERP the office raises one tax invoice per lorry: 6 at the rate per thousand for bricks, 300 at the rate per block, the site as the shipping address and the lorry number in the notes. Posting it takes the bricks and blocks out of the yard and adds the amount to the builder's ledger.
Can bricks go per thousand and blocks per piece on one invoice?
Yes. Add a 1000 Nos unit once and put it on each brick product; blocks keep Nos. The invoice line takes 6 at ₹5,900 for the bricks and 300 at ₹42 for the hollow blocks, and the stock in the yard falls by 6,000 bricks and 300 blocks.
- Enter and Tab move through the line editor, so a lorry bill takes under a minute
- Line discount in rupees per thousand when a builder bargains at the gate
- Editable round off, because nobody collects 40 paise for a load

Why does a Sarjapur site get IGST and a Hosur site CGST and SGST?
SimpleERP takes the place of supply from the shipping address, then the billing address. A lorry to a Hosur site stays inside Tamil Nadu and splits into CGST and SGST; one to Sarjapur crosses into Karnataka and carries IGST. If a Bengaluru builder takes delivery at a Hosur site, ask your CA which address decides the place of supply and enter that one.
- Builder GSTIN checked on entry, with the state read from its first two digits
- The site as the shipping address on each lorry invoice
- The check runs again at posting, so a changed address cannot leave the wrong tax behind
Which HSN codes go on a brick and block invoice?
Fly-ash products, concrete blocks and clay bricks sit under separate headings, and the rates on bricks, blocks and cement were revised in September 2025. This page does not state them; set each one on the product once your CA confirms it.
- HSN on every line and an HSN-wise summary at the foot of the print
- HSN summary report for the GSTR-1 HSN table at month end
| Product | HSN | Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Fly-ash bricks and fly-ash blocks | 6815 | Revised in September 2025; confirm before billing |
| Solid and hollow concrete blocks | 6810 | Confirm for your exact product |
| Clay building bricks from a kiln | 6901 or 6904 | Kilns have two options since April 2022; confirm which applies |
| Cement bags resold to a builder | 2523 | Revised in September 2025; confirm |
How do I keep track of what each builder owes?
Sree Annamalai Constructions took four lorries in October worth ₹1,84,000 and paid ₹1,20,000 by cheque. The cheque is allocated to the two oldest invoices, and the ₹64,000 left shows on the builder's statement with the age of each open invoice, ready before the next order call.
- Credit limit per builder, with a warning on the invoice when a load would cross it
- Statement with a running balance to hand the site accountant
- Receivables ageing across builders, dealers and house owners

What SimpleERP does not do yet
- E-invoice IRN and QR code, and e-way bills, are not generated through the government APIs
- Cess is not calculated; GST return filing stays with you or your accountant
- No price lists: every line is priced as you bill it
- Delivery challans are not separate stock documents; raise the invoice when the lorry leaves the yard
- The lower kiln rate without input credit is not a seeded rate; add it under Settings if your CA confirms it applies

FAQ
Questions, answered
Can I bill bricks per thousand?
Yes. Create a unit called 1000 Nos under Settings and use it on every brick product. The invoice then reads 6 x 1000 Nos at your rate per thousand, the print shows the same, and the yard stock goes down by six thousand bricks when you post.
Does the invoice have to be ready before the lorry leaves?
It should be. Stock leaves the yard when the invoice posts, and the e-way bill on the portal needs the invoice number and value. Raising it at the gate also means the builder's ledger is right the same day, not when the driver brings the slip back.
What GST rate do I charge on fly-ash bricks?
We do not state it here, because brick, block and cement rates were revised in September 2025 and depend on the exact HSN entry. Fly-ash bricks usually sit under 6815. Set the rate on the product once your CA confirms it. Rates change, so confirm the rate for your goods with your CA or the GST portal before you rely on it.
Can the lorry number and site name print on the invoice?
Yes. The site goes in as the shipping address, which also sets the place of supply, and the lorry number and driver's name go in the invoice notes. Both print on the white A4 copy with your bank details and UPI QR.
