Vyapar vs myBillBook: which fits a small business in India?

Vyapar and myBillBook are both GST billing apps for Indian shop owners and small traders. They differ in where they run, what happens when the internet drops, what they do for staff and how you pay.

In short

Vyapar suits shops that want a free phone plan and billing that keeps working offline; myBillBook suits shops that want web access, staff attendance and a Tally export. SimpleERP fits shops that need full books and payroll on one ledger.

What each is good at

Both are built for the same owner: busy at the counter, not an accountant, and wanting bills and dues on a phone. Both raise e-invoices and e-way bills and show profit and loss and a balance sheet.

  • Vyapar: works offline. Billing carries on when the internet is down and syncs when it is back.
  • Vyapar: free on the phone. A free mobile plan to start, with a desktop version for Windows and Mac.
  • Vyapar: a view for auditors. Profit and loss in a simple view or an accounting layout.
  • myBillBook: phone, PC and web. The same books in a browser as well as the apps.
  • myBillBook: staff and salaries. Attendance, salary dues and payslips on higher plans.
  • myBillBook: hand-off to Tally. A Tally export and GSTR reports to share with your CA.

How do you choose between them?

Start with the two questions that split them: do you need to bill when the internet is down, and do you want staff attendance and salaries in the same app? Then raise ten real bills in each during a trial and show the reports to your CA.

When might a shop outgrow a billing app?

When several staff bill at once, you open a second outlet, or your CA needs complete books for audit. Billing apps keep growing too, so check each vendor's current plans before you assume you have outgrown them.

A third option

Where SimpleERP sits

SimpleERP is browser-based ERP for Indian small businesses. It is more than a billing app: when your CA needs complete double-entry books, or you add staff, purchase orders, production or payroll, it keeps all of it on one ledger, still usable from a phone browser.

  • One ledger for the whole business. Billing, stock, purchase, accounting, CRM, HR, payroll and manufacturing post to the same books.
  • A login for every member. Each person signs in from a browser or a phone browser with their own role.
  • Seven days free, nothing to install. Bill for a week next to the tool you use today and compare.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is Vyapar or myBillBook better for a small manufacturer?

Both are built mainly for billing and stock in shops and trading businesses. If you make goods, check each vendor's current options for raw materials and production, or look at software that covers manufacturing on the same books.

Can my CA work with Vyapar or myBillBook?

Yes. Both produce GST reports and exports for the person who files. Many CAs keep the final books in their own accounting software from those exports, so ask yours what format they want.

Do I need internet to use them?

Vyapar says its billing works offline and syncs when you reconnect. myBillBook describes real-time sync across phone, PC and web; ask them how billing behaves without a connection before you rely on it.

Can I switch from Vyapar to myBillBook or to SimpleERP?

Yes, either way. Moving between them usually means re-entering products and opening dues on a chosen date. SimpleERP has no direct import of another system's data file: you import products and opening stock by CSV, add customers and suppliers on screen, and enter what is owed with the opening balances wizard, usually at the start of a month.

A third option: try SimpleERP free for seven days.
