In short
An attendance register is the day-by-day record of whether each employee was present, absent, on leave or on a half day. SimpleERP keeps attendance in one daily sheet and payroll reads paid days from it.
An attendance register, also called a muster roll, is the record of each employee's attendance for every working day: present, absent, half day, on leave, holiday or weekly off. Labour laws require employers to keep one in a prescribed form and produce it on inspection. At month end its totals give each employee's paid days and loss of pay days for payroll.
Attendance register: a worked example
Attendance at Lakshmi Steel Furnitures for October 2026, a month with 27 working days on a Monday to Saturday shift.

FAQ
Questions, answered
Is an attendance register mandatory?
An attendance register is mandatory for most employers. The OSH Code 2020, formerly the Factories Act, the Code on Wages 2019 and state shops and establishments acts require attendance and wage records in a prescribed form, kept for a set number of years. The form and period vary; check the current rules for your state.
Can employees mark their own attendance in SimpleERP?
Employees can mark their own attendance in SimpleERP. With a self-service login, an employee taps Check in and Check out on their phone. SimpleERP records the time and flags late arrival against their shift. Corrections after that go through HR.
Does SimpleERP print a monthly attendance register?
The attendance summary report gives present, half day, leave, absent and late counts per employee per month, and exports to CSV. Each employee's profile also shows a monthly calendar of every day. If your state needs a specific printed form, fill it from that export.
What happens to payroll if a day is not marked?
SimpleERP treats unmarked working days as present so nobody loses pay by mistake, and flags the payslip as having unmarked days. Mark the day and regenerate the draft run if it should be an absence.
