SimpleERP vs QuickBooks: a QuickBooks alternative in India
Intuit stopped selling QuickBooks in India in July 2022 and ended access on 30 April 2023, so Indian businesses that used it moved elsewhere. SimpleERP is browser-based ERP built for Indian GST. Here is how it covers the same jobs.
In short
Intuit closed QuickBooks in India in 2023. SimpleERP is a browser-based alternative for Indian small businesses: GST billing, stock, purchase, accounting, CRM, HR and payroll on one ledger, with a login for every team member.

What QuickBooks is good at
QuickBooks, from Intuit, is cloud accounting software used by small businesses in many countries. Intuit stopped selling it in India in July 2022 and ended access on 30 April 2023, so it is not an option for Indian businesses today, but many owners and accountants here learned their books on it.
- Widely used abroad. One of the best-known small business accounting products in the countries where it is sold.
- Clean online books. Invoicing and accounting in the browser, from anywhere.
- A large accountant community. Many bookkeepers know it, so help is easy to find where it operates.
- Familiar to many Indian users. Owners and accountants who used it before 2023 know its way of working.

Where the fit breaks: the jobs, side by side
The same daily jobs, described as work rather than features. The QuickBooks column says how businesses on QuickBooks usually get each job done, which depends on the edition, add-ons and setup you choose.
| Job | In SimpleERP | Typical with QuickBooks |
|---|---|---|
| Raise a GST invoice | Keyboard-first line editor; the place of supply picks CGST and SGST or IGST | Not available in India since 2023; former users now bill in another tool |
| Keep books for the April to March year | Financial year, GST rates, accounts and numbering are seeded for India at sign-up | Former Indian users moved their books to another accounting tool after the exit |
| Stock by warehouse at average cost | Every invoice, bill, transfer and work order moves stock; weighted average cost | Former Indian users now track stock in whichever tool they moved to |
| Payroll with PF, PT and TDS | Attendance and leave feed payslips with PF, PT and TDS, posted to the same ledger | In India, usually a separate payroll tool or the accountant |
| Leads and follow-ups | CRM pipeline and today's follow-ups on the same customer list as your invoices | Usually a separate CRM app, kept in step with the books |
| Work orders and bills of materials | BOMs with scrap and cost roll-up; work orders consume and produce stock | Usually handled outside accounting software |
| Team access | A login for every member with seven system roles plus custom roles, priced per user | Depends on the tool you moved to and its user settings |
| Month-end close | Trial balance, P&L, balance sheet, GST summary and a lock date the database enforces | A natural job for any accounting tool you choose |
| E-invoice, e-way bill and GST filing | Registers and HSN summary export; no IRN, e-way bill or filing | Not available in India since 2023; handled by the tool you moved to |
| Get your data out | CSV export of every report, products, stock and the ledger; invoices print as A4 or PDF | Keep any exports you took before the India exit for reference |
Verdict
Choose QuickBooks if… choose SimpleERP if…
Both are sensible choices for different businesses. Here is the honest split.
Choose QuickBooks if
- Your business is registered and operates in a country where QuickBooks is sold
- Your accountant abroad already keeps your books in it
- You rely on its own add-ons and app integrations in a country where they are offered
Choose SimpleERP if
- You are an Indian business that used QuickBooks and needs a browser-based home for GST billing and books
- You want billing, stock, purchase, CRM, HR and payroll on one ledger, with every invoice updating stock and books in one step
- You want to try it free for a week in the browser, with nothing to install
Honest limits
What SimpleERP does not do yet
Worth knowing before you switch.
- GST return filing: registers and the HSN summary export to CSV for whoever files your returns
- E-invoice IRN and e-way bill generation through the government APIs
- Batch, lot, serial or expiry tracking, and multi-currency
- Bank feeds: bank entries are recorded and reconciled by hand
- Historical vouchers are not imported; the old system stays your archive
Getting started
Moving from QuickBooks to SimpleERP
Pick a cut-over date
Use the reports and exports you kept from QuickBooks as your reference, and start SimpleERP from opening balances on a chosen date. Pick the first day of a financial year, quarter or month; 1 April is best.
Import your masters
Tally Masters XML, Zoho exports or spreadsheets, checked before anything is written: accounts, customers, suppliers and products with opening stock per warehouse. See the help centre.
Bring balances and open bills
Import opening balances for bank, cash, loans and the rest, and each unpaid invoice and bill with its own number and due date. A wrong import can be undone.
Run both for a month
Bill in SimpleERP and keep the old books open. Compare receivables, stock and the trial balance at month end, then set the lock date.
FAQ
Questions, answered
Is QuickBooks still available in India?
No. Intuit stopped selling QuickBooks in India in July 2022 and ended access on 30 April 2023, so Indian businesses that used it have moved to other tools. SimpleERP is one option built for India, with GST billing, the April to March year, and PF, PT and TDS in payroll.
What is a good QuickBooks alternative for an Indian small business?
If you want only accounting, any GST-ready accounting tool your accountant knows will do. If you also hold stock, buy from suppliers, pay staff or have a sales team, SimpleERP keeps all of it on one ledger in the browser, with a login for every team member.
Can my accountant keep working with me if I move from QuickBooks?
Yes. Invite your accountant by phone or email with the Accountant role. They get journals, bank and cash registers, the trial balance, P&L, balance sheet, GST summary and the lock date, and can export any report or register to CSV for their own tools.
Does SimpleERP file GST returns?
No. SimpleERP prepares what filing needs: the sales and purchase registers for GSTR-1 and GSTR-2B checks and the HSN summary, all exportable to CSV. Filing itself stays with you or your accountant on the GST portal. E-invoice IRNs and e-way bills are not generated through the government APIs today.
